Cell nuclei are revealed by blue DAPI staining. POMC neurons linked with roles in the regulation of appetite are stained and labeled with a green fluorescent dye. If not for immunolabeling techniques, would be otherwise completely invisible.

About The Artist

Harry MacKay is a PhD student in the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University in the lab of Dr. Alfonso Abizaid. His research focuses on the hormone ghrelin, a protein involved in feeding behavior, adiposity, stress, depression, and more. He also conducts research on the effects of BPA on adiposity. In the 2012/2013 academic year, Harry acted as the lead Audio Visual & Equipment Coordinator for the Society for Neuroscience, Ottawa Chapter.
