White Morpho: Perspectives by James E. Jans

White Morpho: Perspectives by James E. Jans

All elements in the piece have been derived from a single photograph of a White Morpho (Morpho polyphemus). An individual may be perceived, or may be characterized, in many different ways.

About The Artist

I am a retired professor of psychology and a relatively new nature photographer. My academic interests led me to photograph the flora and fauna around us. At times I like to take a particular image, digitally extract the animal or plant, and then replicate and manipulate the extraction into a new pattern or shape, giving a new (and I hope interesting) perspective of the organism. The finished patterns/shapes are then incorporated into larger designs, which I have printed on fabric, canvas, and metal.
