Dendritic Arborization by Brad Bujaki

Dendritic Arborization by Brad Bujaki

This piece was originally inspired by the words “dendritic arborization,” referring to how branched out a neuron’s dendrites become depending on the function and location of the neuron. That’s what gave me an image of a tree growing from a person’s head. As the idea developed and I decided I wanted to make a clay piece, I began to think more about how it is more representative of mental illness than of a normal function of a neuron. I had my own anxieties when deciding to create this piece because I had never worked with this medium before and I didn’t know if I would be very good at it. Though I am happy with how it turned out.
