Caffeine and Cortisol by Hanna Jarrett

Caffeine and Cortisol by Hanna Jarrett

This piece originated from feeling very stressed with all my obligations, academic and otherwise. It’s a self portrait of sorts – the figure in the centre is meant to be me, and then the text surrounding it contains some of my thoughts concerning academic pressure. I used the bold and harsh colours of red and black to make the image striking and to show that this is a very emotional subject for me. The pose shows a certain degree of vulnerability – often when we feel stressed or overwhelmed I think there is a tendency to sort of curl up in yourself and avoid the world, which is what I tried to convey with this pose.
