The Dancer by Rebecca Hay

The Dancer by Rebecca Hay

My piece displays a dancer mid leap, and is meant to convey a sense of liberty. It was originally painted with victims of human trafficking in mind, and was meant to depict the path to recovery and freedom from the trauma and stigma of victimization. However, this piece can be relevant to anyone who has felt victimized or stigmatized, as so many people who live with a mental illness have experienced. Mental illness is heavily stigmatized in today’s society, and only through awareness and education can we hope to eradicate that stigma.
