This piece represents the relationship between creativity and suicide. Studies have shown that artists exhibit a higher rate of mental disorders including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders and substance abuse. They are also more likely to commit suicide. Many great artists and poets like Sylvia Plath, Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf and High School Students excelled in their fields yet suffered from debilitating mental disorders, which in most cases, led to their demise. In fact some of the mentioned artists produced much of their best work during the time preceding their suicide. Although the correlation between creativity and mental disorders has long been established in culture and recently in science, the exact relationship still remains unknown.
